KARACHI: Multan Sultans head coach Andy Flower is very happy with the way his team came out of nowhere and won the inaugural HBL PSL-6 trophy at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday for the night.
“I’m very proud of my guys,” Andy said after his team defeated Zalmi in the final.
“They performed sensationally. In fact, I think the best thing about winning this trophy is that we came back out of nowhere, “said Andy.
“We lost four of our five games in Karachi and I think most of the people had ruled us out. Importantly, I don’t think anyone in the locker room has given up. We came back from that, we advanced little by little and we were in the top two, as the first two positions are obviously very important to reach the final and we did it, ”said Andy, a former captain from Zimbabwe.
“And I think the guys under pressure today performed extraordinarily well. I think the ball rocked and moved and bounced a little bit in our innings and you can see why Zalmi got us in and you know, even with the bursts of Shoaib Malik and Rutherford in the third of their innings and our guys were under pressure and they dealt with him brilliantly, ”Andy said.
He appreciated the efforts of the patron Mohammad Rizwan. “Really proud of Rizwan as captain and also of Shan Masood that he reacted like a true champion. . . the way he behaved after losing the captaincy at the end of the last PSL, “said Andy.
“I am very proud of everyone involved, very happy for our owner Alamgir Tareen. He was really supportive at all times, ”he said.
He also praised Zalmi’s efforts. “Zalmi is very well managed. They have a rich history of reaching the playoffs and finals, as this was his fourth final. And run by two great guys, Mohammad Akram and Darren Sammy, I obviously feel sorry for them today. They had smiles on their faces at the end of the game and they did a great job for their team, ”he said.
Commenting on the composition of his team, Andy said: “We talked about the factor that we had very little to lose playing aggressive cricket, but I would say that the composition of the team was such that we did not have a rounder whole. Sohail Tanvir is at number 7 and played a couple of very important innings. So the hitters had to do their job since no one was backing them in the lower order.
“I think you could go with a lot of people, but Rizwan was great hitting in Karachi. Sohaib Maqsood, when he got his three spots in the batting order, he hit brilliantly and made his way back to the national squad, which is a great effort. I’m very happy for him, ”Andy said.
“Sohaib was sensational. He came out under pressure most of the time and it’s wonderful to see him. I hope he goes to international games and does something similar, ”Andy said.
“There are serious challenges that occur around the world. People get sick, they lose their loved ones, their income is drastically reduced and all kinds of hardships all over the world. I think everyone feels very lucky to have paid employment, ”Andy said.
“This surface has provided a really fair challenge for everyone, batsmen and bowlers, and we’ve seen some great cricket. Hope Pakistan cricket is growing thanks to everyone’s exposure at PSL. I would like to congratulate PCB for reorganizing PSL on such short notice, putting on a great show, “said Andy.
